  4. Welcome to our GTHL sanctioned Tournament. The GTHL is committed to the highest standard set forth by Hockey Canada in regards to making our game safe for all participants. The purpose of this note is to inform all participants that GTHL officials have received thorough training. A component of that training involves the directive for each of them to adhere to all of Hockey Canada’s penalty standards with the strictest enforcement. Officials have no latitude in replacing a Check From Behind penalty, Head-Contact penalty or violent stick infraction with a lesser penalty. The GTHL Board has provided a directive to all officials that states when an official is conflicted about the severity of a call, the official should error on the side of safety and the more severe penalty should be assessed. The phrase “Protect Our Kids” is being used at every GTHL Officiating clinic to enforce the GTHL’s commitment to a safe environment. The GTHL fully supports the directives set by Hockey Canada and the Ontario Hockey Federation and our Officials are expected to follow these directives. I am sure you will agree that our participants should be leaving the game healthier than when they started playing the game, and this approach is designed to assist in that goal. All referees and linemen officiating in this tournament will be qualified and registered by the CHA.
